Tcpdump: verbose output suppressed, use -v or -vv for full protocol decode I tried tcpdump for same port for only new connections from Windows machines through VNCViewer and found as below #tcpdump 'tcp & 2!=0' and portrange 5900-7000 With various linux command you can identify these things like below #lsof -i :5900-5910ĬOMMAND PID USER FD TYPE DEVICE SIZE/OFF NODE NAME Log file is /home/ssirohi/.vnc/jarvis:2.log Starting applications specified in /home/ssirohi/.vnc/xstartup This session is only belongs to that user, every other session that will start by any other user will work on another port like below vncserver rw- 1 root root 8 Sep 25 02:22 /root/.vnc/passwd Now we can start VNCServer same as above. But this time it will not ask for password as password is already saved in ~/.vnc/passwd #ls -l ~/.vnc/passwd rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 46 Sep 25 03:09 /root/.vnc/xstartup Please check permission should be executable for xstartup file #ls -l ~/.vnc/xstartup #cp -p ~/.vnc/xstartup ~/.vnc/xstartup.bak it better to take backup file and recreate it like below. #vncserver -kill :1Īfter this, we need to open and edit xstartup file. So before configuring xstartup file, first we should kill same vnc session that we initiated with below command. It also created xstartup file, which used to configure starting application used for X Windows. It asked for view only password as well, In this windows views can’t able to control system. In above output, it is clear that first time it ask for password. Starting applications specified in /root/.vnc/xstartup Would you like to enter a view-only password (y/n)? n Warning: password truncated to the length of 8. You will require a password to access your desktops. This will create VNC Server session for same user. Install the Xfce and TightVNC packages below command apt-get install xfce4 xfce4-goodies tightvncserverĪfter installation of VNC Server, we have to start and configure VNC server, for this we have to use vncserver command to setup VNC password for login. On ubuntu Server 16.04 by default no VNC packages is installed, So we have install them with apt-get. There are various cross-platform apps like RealVNC. in this post we will see how to configure VNC Server, through which we can take VNC.
